The Adventures of Captain McBlair

"It is possible to make engines for flying, a man sitting in the midst thereof, by turning only about an instrument, which moves artificial wings made to beat the air, much after the fashion of a bird's flight."
--- Roger Bacon, Secrets of Art and Nature, (circa 1250)

This is the story of Captain David McBlair, skilled pilot, former instructor and great friend. Unlike most of you and I, David is one of those lucky few whose office happens to be in the cockpit of a Bombardier Lear 60 and a Beechcraft KingAir 200.

"And then there were rivets...."

Learning of our project and our goal to get parts of the plane to as many remote destinations as possible before actually going in the plane, David eagerly volunteered. Because of David, only one particular set of rivets and other miscellaneous hardware can make the claim of having traveled to 43 national airports, for precisely 139.1 hours, over a distance of 36,730 nautical miles, at altitudes as high as 43,000 feet, at 0.81 Mach and with a top ground speed of 705 knots!! (David, I want your job!)

These parts are going near the border between California and New Mexico.

Here we see them at 40,000 feet and going mighty fast! Hold onto your hats!
