Engine - 3

Day three finishes up the assembly. Mags are added, fuel lines, rear case and sump.

Again, where we left off at end of day two.

Another view of top of cylinders.

The rear of the engine showing cam and mag drive gears.

Getting ready to install rocker arm covers and rear case.

Rear case

Another view from a different angle.

Installing rocker arm covers. We forgot to get a picture of the installed rocker arms.

A view of the engine bottom.

Upper end of fastener for airflow panel on bottom of cylinder fins.

Three more views of the assembly.

Installing the engine-driven fuel pump

Bottom view of pump.

Side view of the pump.

Propeller governor (left) and vacuum pump mountings.

A view of the inside with the rear housing attached.

The sump has been added. This composite sump will later be replaced with a newly-designed aluminum sump.

A better view of the engine sump.

Magneto adapter has been added.

Both mag adapters have been added.

Spider valve for the fuel injection assembly.

More safety wiring.

... oil drain plug...???

Magnetos are installed and timed.

Fuel lines from spider valve to cylinders are bent/fitted and installed.

And there you have, essentially a finished/assembled 180 hp aircraft engine.

Notice the cart is just about empty.

A few of the materials used in the assembly. Also, a lot of mineral oil as parts were assembled.

The proud, and tired, builders. More correctly, the assemblers.
