Mt. Sherman, Colorado

August 20, 2008 -- Mt. Sherman, Colorado
Another peak, another campsite. This is becoming a very familiar theme this summer.
It's another early start, this time at 11,240 feet. At Mt. Sherman you can cut out some of the gain if you can drive all the way up to the gate. Unfortunately if you do, you can't claim the 3000' rule because of 204 additional feet you did not ascend (ok, whatever.)
Meet David, a Newcastle, England transplant who just moved to Colorado, and his dog.
By starting up above treeline, everything from here on is rocky or scrubby.
Remains of an old mine litter the area.
An old building
Our goal is to go all the way up that ridge and to the right. The summit is just up there.
There are lots of cairns to be found, but around this place everything starts to look like cairns!
There are numerous paths, too.
Just up this ridge.
We're finally here!
And so are the parts. By the way, what a treat to be able to see Mt. Elbert (my second 14er, on the left) and Mt. Massive (yet to summit) to the right.
Taking photos
The path back down to the valley is pretty obvious.
These old structures make for good black and white photos.
I love what they did with the place.
Another day, another peak done. Time to hit the road.
