August 2008 -- San Luis Peak, Colorado
Welcome to the village of the Littleton Backpacking and Camping Group. Today we are set up at the San Luis Peak trialhead in the San Juan range of Colorado.
The yellow structure is my summer home.
The morning starts off quite clear - things are looking good so far at 6:00am (good thing since it poured rain the night before!)
That fog up on top of the mountains just left of the treetops...well, that's part of where we're going, but that's not the top.
Hello, Len.
A bit closer, but still a long way to go. It's starting to cloud up a little...hmmmm...this could be interesting.
There are several small creeks to cross.
After some time, we are finally at the top of the peak we saw in the pictures before this. Here's what it looks like on the OTHER side. We're headed right for that peak on the left (in the fog!)
So we still have a bit left to go on this rocky trail.
A break in the clouds give a great view of the summit!
But all good things come to and end (and up here, quickly!) Fog socks in the peak, but we made it (and so did the parts!)
It's another Gore-Tex par-tay!
Don't be fooled by the shorts - it's pretty darn cold up here today. We got our pictures, now time to go!
Some of the trees along the way back down make for some interesting black and white photography.
The wildflowers are great.
The road home...
No room for Frank...guess he'll just have to stay here.
Not looking too shabby for 12.0 miles and 3600' gain. Now...time to go back into town and have some well-deserved beer!
